Season 23 Review / Bilan de la saison écoulée

Written by Matrix team at 11:50 10/4-2013

After two great seasons for Matrix Team, with big successes in mainly TT races (and Essex Tour of course), the Team Manager Thomas A. Anderson had decided it was time to extend our Tour abilities to keep growing.

And what a chance we had ! When Nicholas Ryle came to our team, he was first supposed to be a team mate for Montelbano and for another future Tour Captain. And as we wanted to finish his training, making him the strongest he could be for his leader, he finally became himself a perfect captain for Tours (espacially Vuelta de los Catillos and Germany Tour).

So the least we could do was give him a try. In Spain, and not in top form because of an injury some days earlier, he achieved to finish on the general classification podium (3rd) ! And for his second attempt, in Germany, and in TF this time, he confirmed with a beautiful victory, beating all the other captains, supposed to be stronger and with better team mates than him.
The next stage will be Vuelta again, but this time in TF, and the unspoken dream is of course a new victory, making Matrix Team the holder of 3 of the 4 top division Tours ! (and Drapeau Noir, the other french team, the holder of the 4th).
And for the Germany Tour of season 24, we hope Sjur Antonsen will be ready (and strong enough) to defend Ryle title ! We're trying to training him the fastest we can, but not sure yet we will have the time before the sign up comes.

However, even those great results in Tours were not enough to compensate for the disapointing results in the time trial races with « only » 2 victories and 10 other results (a chance for us the season ended well with a win in WC ITT and 3rd and 7th place).
Not that bad some would say, but weaker than previous season results, from far. And the main reason is of course Nairobi City Cyling Club, who did an great season (10 victories and 11 results, all in TT races) and his manager, Methode. Congratz to them.
Let's just hope the incoming season will be better for us (already 1 win and 1 second place) with 2 new trainees (probably won't be trained until next season) : Edward Napolitano, and Nathaniel Yde (will join us shortly).

Eventually break aways : 2 unexpected (and not deserved) victories including Roubaix Classic. Always good to win, but would have prefer differently...

Anyway, the OCM community elected us as the Team of the Year, crowning the manager for this unbelievable season.

  Expactations for season 24 :
  -To win a Tour
-To finish Antonsen training (and maybe improve a little Yde and Napolitano)
-To win more TT than last season
-To end in the top 10 once again

   ------------------------------------------------------------------
